Still in private hands, it has been classified by the Portuguese Institute of Architectural Heritage (IPPAR) since 1975. It is well preserved, with a large walled garden from Praia da Angrinha to Praia Grande. It also comprises a large residence with several sets of battlemented walls, in different planes. The São João do Arade Fort, also known as São João do Arade Castle, or simply as Castelo do Arade, in the Algarve, is located in the village and parish of Ferragudo, Lagoa municipality, Faro district, Portugal.
